MinInterior will ask the CNE to evaluate exclusion of candidates disqualified by the Attorney General

·       The Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Rivera, stated that, in the Single Window of the Ministry of the Interior, it was reported that the candidates for the Senate, Ernesto Daza (Cambio Radical) and Alejandro Herrera (opción ciudadana) are disqualified and registered for elections to the Congress of March 11.

The Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Rivera, stressed that political parties and movements went to the Single Electoral Window to request information on investigations of people who would register as candidates.

“There are two people on whom information was requested at the window and it was reported, early, before the closing of inscriptions to Congress”said the Minister, referring to Ernesto Daza (Cambio Radical) and Alejandro Herrera (Opcion Ciudadana), who are disabled.

For this reason, announced that it will go to the National Electoral Council, CNE, to make decisions on these two cases in particular, taking into account that there is a deadline until one month before the elections, its mean, on February 11, and both candidates be excluded.

Minister Rivera explained that “the national government, through the Ministry of the Interior, has the constitutional mission of providing full guarantees in the electoral process” and anticipated that "from Thursday we will tour the country." We began this Thursday, February 1 in Caquetá and Putumayo, and in Bogota the President Juan Manuel Santos will install the Guarantees Commission”.

Highlighted the increase in queries, through the Single Window, because “in December of 2017, information requests were registered from 14 political parties that are taking more precautions when it comes to registering candidates", which "favors the citizens who they will have greater certainty at the moment of choosing their candidates.”

The Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Rivera, also revealed that, of 2,737 candidates registered, 1,670 passed through the permanent Single Electoral Window. Likewise, he pointed out that there have been 5,679 consultations, which correspond to 4,186 people, taking into account that some could be consulted more than once.

The Single Electoral Window is an efficient mechanism to facilitate the obtaining of information, prior to the granting of endorsements and registration by parties and political movements with legal status, and / or significant groups of citizens, on the possible candidates that will endorse positions and corporations of popular election to the ordinary and atypical elections and for the internal and interparty consultations of the parties and political movements to choose their candidates.
